* Korean government to provide Sri Lanka assistance to develop education

Sept 28, Colombo: Korean Ambassador to Sri Lanka Santush Woonjin Jeong met with the Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena today (28) at the Ministry of Education, Isurupaya.
During the meeting, the Korean envoy agreed to provide assistance for the development of the education and higher education sector in Sri Lanka. Accordingly, it was agreed to provide assistance to the Government of Sri Lanka for the development in the sectors of renewable energy, mathematics and language development, technological development and human resources.
It was emphasized that a number of activities are expected to be carried out under the project “Building a Better Physical Environment for Primary and Secondary Education”.
These include Implementation of 04 Model Colleges for Teacher Training and Extra Curricular Activities for the Kilinochchi District, classroom renovation and construction, providing necessary equipment for special education units in schools, providing audio-visual equipment to schools and teachers; implementing programs for capacity building of teachers and principals, and providing the necessary facilities to promote social cohesion.
Discussions were also held on the establishment of a new National College of Education for Technical Education in the country.
