Aug 30, Colombo: For the first time in the history of Sri Lanka, Laksala signed a business agreement to open a showroom in the United States, the State Minister of Batik, Handloom Fabric and Local Apparel Products Dayasiri Jayasekara said.
The main objective of this is to replenish Laksala’s sales revenue, which has been reduced by 90% due to non-arrival of foreign tourists due to the current Covid epidemic situation, under a new business plan and to empower local producers.
Accordingly, the Sri Lanka Handicrafts Board under the full coordination and contribution of the State Ministry of Batik, Handloom Fabric and Local Apparel Products recently signed the business agreement with Boom Lanka Batik and Gifts LLC (Ceylon Gallery) in Florida, USA at the Laksala Chairman’s Office in Colombo 07.
Franchisee, Boom Lanka Batik and Gifts LLC-USA Chairman Sudharma Warnakulasooriya and franchiser Sri Lanka Handicraft Board Chairman Lakmal Wickramaarachchi signed the agreement.
Handicrafts items, batik, handloom products, Ceylon tea, coffee, spices, Ayurvedic products, organic products and cosmetic products will be promoted at the outlet in Florida.
Arrangements have also been made to set up 50 such Laksala outlets in other US states.
Laksala is also planning to open such franchises in Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada and the Middle East before the end of 2023 under its new management business plan.
