The All Ceylon Council of Muslim Religious Scholars has expressed its concern over the appointment of Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena, to the post of Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on One Country, One Law.
Issuing a statement they said that this has created fear of persecution among Muslims.
“We are shocked to learn of the establishment of the Presidential Task Force on “One Country, One Law”.
We are aware that this topic has been the main focus in recent times. According to the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, all citizens of the island have lived for centuries and enjoyed religious freedom as “one country, one community” following their own religious cultures and values.
In a country where there are many religious leaders who respect different religions, we are concerned and disgruntled about the appointment of a controversial person to this highly responsible post, who has been insulting the religion and hurting the feelings of Muslims.
This has created fear among the Muslims that they will be persecuted in various ways. This appointment is a matter of disrespect to our country at the international level.
We pray to Allah that peace, unity, good health and prosperity will prevail in our motherland and people and that all will live in harmony. ”
