* New ‘Emigration Hall’ at Departure Passenger Terminal of Bandaranaike International Airport opens

July 16, Colombo: Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga with the participation of Minister of Youth and Sports Namal Rajapaksa Thursday (15) declared open the newly constructed ‘Emigration Hall’ at the departure passenger terminal of Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).
The first terminal of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) has been completely renovated under the BIA Terminal 1 expansion project, and 23 new emigration counters have been added at the terminal.
Dedicated space for dual-height spacious departure terminal, installation of new air conditioning system, telephone and data accessories, extending the existing departure terminal to the VIP area, two escalators with three additional floors, an elevator, a new staircase extension of existing departure terminal to private area, 2 escalators with three additional floors, elevator, new In addition to the staircase and expanding baggage handling facilities with five more screening windows were added under the project.
The expansion project was completely funded by the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Ltd. at a cost Rs. 430 million.
The enhanced design at the BIA facilitates a systematic and efficient clearance process. The opening of the new terminal will enable passengers to reach their destination without any hassle, minimizing the congestion and delays at the airport and adding a new experience to their journey. “This improved and expanded design offers a new experience to our valued passengers on their happy journey through BIA,” the AASL said.
Minister Namal Rajapaksa also inaugurated the Enterprise Resource Management System (ERP System) using new technology to modernize the administration of Bandaranaike International Airport. The system is expected to meet the goals of making airport management more efficient and updating information faster.
