Secretary to the President Dr. P.B. Jayasundara has ruled out the possibility of obtaining assistance from the IMF in order to resolve the country’s financial crisis.
He has stated that the country does not want aid from the IMF and that the IMF does not have the capability to revive the country’s tourism or export sectors.
He said it is okay to obtain IMF aid only if such assistance would pave the way to revive the tourism and export sectors and thereby ensure an income of US $ 2 billion to the country.
But the IMF program does not guarantee such an income to the country, he said.
Jayasundara said he is closely working with newly appointed finance minister Basil Rajapaksa.
