Pakistan, Sri Lanka agree to continue defense cooperation

Nov 19, Colombo: Pakistan and Sri Lanka agreed to continue to support each other at all regional and international fora during the Third Round of Pakistan-Sri Lanka Armed Forces Defense Dialogue (AFDD) held in Expo Centre, Karachi from 16-17 November 2022.
Pakistan delegation was led by Lt. Gen. (Retd) Hamood uz Zaman Khan, Secretary Defense. Sri Lankan delegation was headed by Secretary of Defense Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne.
During the Dialogue, Pakistan and Sri Lanka reviewed the existing scope of bilateral military relations and expressed satisfaction on the progress achieved under the umbrella of AFDD, the High Commission of Pakistan in Colombo said.
Both leaders exchanged views on regional security and upcoming challenges. It was agreed that the cooperation in the field of defense industry, military training, joint exercises and high level visits will continue.
In the end, it was agreed that next meeting of AFDD will be convened in Sri Lanka on mutually agreed dates in 2023.
Sri Lankan delegation also visited the Defense Expo IDEAS-22 which is being held at Karachi and held discussions with various stakeholders.
The high level defense delegation also called on Minister of Defense Production, Secretary of Defense Production, Secretary of Defense, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and COAS during their visit to Pakistan.
High Commissioner of Pakistan in Sri Lanka Maj. Gen. (R) Umar Farooq Burki ensured to facilitate and make this a successful high level Sri Lankan defense visit to Pakistan, the High Commission of Pakistan said.
