Pallewela Police are yet to take action against a local moneylender and nephew who had assaulted a journalist who had exposed several illegal activities occuring in the area.
On Jan. 26, the nephew, who is an Army soldier, has attempted to murder the journalist together with his uncle and another man.
The journalist had lodged a complaint with the Pallewela police that he was attacked by the moneylender – Ponnaiah Adistra Velu and his nephew – Rumesh Chandratillake.
The journalist has been attacked with a knife and a long handled sickle. Upon hearing the cries of the journalist, residents of the area had rushed to the scene and saved him. He had been hospitalised afterwards.
However, the Pallewela police are yet to make any arrests in this regard.
It is said that the suspects have not been on good terms with the journalist for sometime over a doubt that the journalist had leaked CCTV footage of them sabotaging a house and taking away its possessions.
