
The parents and a grandmother have been arrested following the death of a 10-year-old boy in Badalgama.
Police had been informed by locals that an unpleasant odor was being reported from a house in Andimulla, Badalgama last evening (09).
Accordingly, police officers who had visited the house for inspection had discovered the lifeless body of a 10-year-old boy in one of the rooms.
Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that the deceased child had fallen in with phlegm on Feb. 07 and the parents had decided to pray in accordance to their religion, for the speedy recovery of their son.
They have continued to pray after the child had died to bring back his life and the police spokesman has stated that the child was never taken for medical treatment.
Police Media Spokesperson urged the public not to let children become victims of such negligence, noting that strict legal action will be taken against negligent parents.
The postmortem is to be conducted after reporting details of the case to the Negombo magistrate court.
