Members of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) left the House this afternoon to protest against an attempt by Minister of State for Fisheries Kanchana Wijesekera to attack Galle District MP Manusha Nanayakkara near the Opposition Leader’s Office this afternoon.
However, the failure of the Samagi Jana Balawega to get the opposition JVP and TNA MPs to join the protest is now being talked about.
The members of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya left the House after the Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella made a statement in this regard.
Chief Opposition Whip Lakman Kiriella said that a group of government and opposition MPs had thwarted an attempt by Kanchana Wijesekara to assault Manusha Nanayakkara.
The attack is said to have taken place following an argument over a statement made by Nanayakkara in Parliament.
It is learned that the sergeant and the officers of the Parliamentary Police had also arrived at the scene at this time.
Kiriella said he hoped to lodge a complaint with the Speaker and take appropriate action.
