The Pelwatte Dairy Industries Ltd. has taken measures to open up more retail shops of the company to distribute the locally produced milk powder, police say.
The police had said this in a statement issued with regard to a recent turn of events that transpired near the Pelwatte outlet near the Jubilee post in Mirihana.
The police statement said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had instructed SDIG Deshabandhu Tennakoon to verify the reasons for people standing in long queues outside the aforementioned retail shop.
Police investigations have found that the outlet serving through just one sales counter had resulted in people standing in long queues and overcrowding.
SDIG Deshabandhu Tennakoon had reportedly held a discussion with the Chairman of Pelwatte Dairy Industries Ltd on the matter yesterday (30) and subsequently, measures had been taken to open up more retail shops of the company.
In addition to this, steps have also been taken to set up more retail shops in other areas from today (31) the statement adds.
The statement also strongly refutes false reports circulating on social media with regard to this incident.
