The Mount Lavinia Crimes Investigation Division had arrested an individualyesterday who had engaged in wilfully knocking other vehicles with his threewheeler and extorting money from the drivers by threatening them. Police have seized the three-wheeler used by the suspect and a three foot long club.
The Divisional SSP Mangala Dehideniya had instructed the Crimes Investigation Division to investigate these incidents that had been reported on social mediaduring the recent past and arrest those involved in several of these incidents.According the Acting OIC of the Division Sub Inspector Neil Priyantha and histeam had arrested the suspect from the Badowita area in Mount Lavinia.
It has been revealed during interrogation that the suspect had been traveling in a three-wheeler in the Dehiwala- Kohuwala -Piliyandala areas and had deliberately collided with luxury vehicles 15 times in the past two months and fraudulently obtained Rs. 304,800 from motorists.
He hadovertaken these vehicles either from the left or right and suddenly cut intothe other vehicle causing damage to that vehicle and claiming to have been hurtdue to the accident. He then goes to the drive armed with the club and demandsan amicable settlement without reporting the matter to the police.
The suspect was arrested by the Mount Lavinia Police for possessing 10 grams of heroin and was released on bail two months. The suspect has been handed over to the Kohuwala Police to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court.
