President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has rejected a request by 11 pro-government parties to negotiate an agreement with an American company on the Yugadanavi power plant.
The leaders of the political parties sent a letter to the President on September 21 requesting this discussion with the participation of experts on the subject.
In a letter to the President, the leaders of 11 political parties had suggested that the agreement be re-negotiated and that the agreement be implemented through a formal tender process after a formal study.
However, the President has instructed the leaders of those political parties in writing to discuss political matters with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance.
The leaders of the political parties are scheduled to meet next Saturday for a lengthy discussion.
The letter was signed by the leaders of the Democratic Left Front, Lanka Sama Samaja Party, Jathika Nidahas Peramuna, Sri Lanka Freedom Party, National Congress, Ekasath Mahajana Pakshaya, Communist Party of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Mahajana Party and Yuthukama Organizations.
