
The government has decided to introduce a QR code system for individuals eligible for welfare subsidies.
Chairman of the Welfare Benefit Board B Wijayaratne speaking at a media briefing today (5) revealed of the decision to identify individuals eligible for the welfare subsidy.
Accordingly, the programme is aimed at individuals currently receiving benefits under welfare programmes such as the Samurdhi, the elderly pension, disabled persons, kidney disease assistance, and family members of persons on the waiting list for subsidies and persons affected by the current economic crisis.
Accordingly, it has been estimated that 3.9 million families will apply for this programme.
The new programme will be enforced under six steps.
