According to the National Dengue Control Unit, 66 health medical officer divisions have been identified as dengue high-risk areas.
The unit stated that dengue continues to spread rapidly in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Medical Officer of Health divisions in Meerigama, Wadduwa, Akmeemana, Balapitiya, Habaraduwa, Hambantota, Weligama, Kuliapitiya and Warakapola.
With the prevailing rainy weather, the dengue mosquito larvae population has also increased.
So far this year 48,351 dengue cases have been reported while the highest number of cases have been reported from the Colombo District.
The number of cases reported from the Colombo District stands at 12,441.
