Niroshan Gorakananda, co-convener of the Port Joint Trade Union Alliance, charges that a financial irregularity of around Rs. 40 million had taken place while purchasing face masks for employees at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA).
He said this irregularity had taken place after authorities had purchased a face mask at a price of Rs. 40 which is available at Rs. 07 in the local market.
Mr. Gorakananda said that a stock of 100,000 – 150,000 face masks are purchased each month and a complaint in this regard has been filed with the CID and the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
