Secretly buried body exhumed

Sept 10, Colombo: The body of a person who was secretly buried without informing the health services was exhumed today.
The body of the deceased, a resident of Weppamaduwa, Puttalam, secretly buried without informing the health services, was exhumed on the orders of Puttalam Magistrate Asela de Silva before him today.
The Magistrate ordered that the body be taken to the Puttalam Base Hospital to take tissue samples and be re-buried.
The deceased identified as Mohamed Nistar, 56, died suddenly four days ago.
Following his sudden death, his wife and daughter, who lived with him in the same house have died on the 6th September due to COVID-19 infection.
According to a complaint lodged by the Puttalam Medical Health Office regarding the body of the father who died two days earlier, the Puttalam Police had to conduct a special investigation and recover the body after the Puttalam Police reported the incident to the court.
Health officials say six people, including a three-year-old child, were taken into quarantine at the home where the coronavirus deaths occurred.
The two deceased from COVID-19 have been identified as his wife Sitti Ajiba, 51, of Veppamaduwa, Mannar Road, Puttalam and her daughter Fatima Sahana, 37, of the same house.
The head of the family, 56 year old Mohamed Nistar, had died suddenly on the 4th and was buried in the Veppamaduwa Muslim Cemetery after informing the Grama Niladhari in charge of the area on the advice of the Puttalam Ayurvedic doctor who had treated him.
Failure to inform the health sector about this death was a serious problem. The funeral of this person was not conducted under any quarantine rules
Two days after his death, on the 6th, the daughter of the deceased was admitted to the Puttalam Base Hospital and was diagnosed with Covid infection. She died a few hours later.
Hours after the daughter’s death, her 51-year-old mother was admitted to the Puttalam Base Hospital after falling unconscious at home. She was dead on admission to the hospital.
After an antigen test at the Puttalam Base Hospital, it was confirmed that the woman was also infected with Covid.
