Sevanagala Sugar Factory makes record profit of Rs. 1.3 billion in 2021

Jan 03, Colombo: Thirty five years after its inception, the Sevanagala Sugar Factory has made a profit of Rs. 1.3 billion in 2021, according to the State Minister of Development of Minor Crops including Sugarcane, Maize, Cashew, Pepper, Cinnamon, Cloves, Betel Related Industries and Export Promotion, Janaka Wakkumbura.
The company has made the highest profit in its history last year, the State Minister said while participating in the dividend distribution ceremony for employees and farmers held at the factory premises on the 31st December. Permanent appointment letters were also handed over to 400 employees of Lanka Sugar Company.
The awarding of permanent appointments for the year 2022, the granting of special incentives for the year 2022 and the presentation of commemorative plaques for the employees who retired in the year 2021 were also held.
Speaking at the occasion, the State Minister said that it was possible to grind 300,000 metric tons of sugarcane this year and 05 million liters of ethanol has been produced. The sugar company makes 50% of its profits from ethanol production.
It has been decided to give an allowance of Rs. 30,000 to the employees of the factory and an allowance of Rs. 15,000 to the farmers from the profits made last year.
State Minister of Agriculture Shasheendra Rajapaksa, State Minister for Education Vijitha Berugoda, Monaragala District Parliamentarians AP Jagath Pushpakumara, Dr. Gayashan Navananda, Gamini Rasaputra, CEO of Lanka Sugar Company and Janaka Nimalachandra, Chairman of the company were also present on the occasion.
