It was revealed at the Colombo Municipal Coroner’s Office yesterday (12) that rapper Shiraz Younus had died of a heart attack while participating in a massive protest against the government at Galle Face Green.
The forensic medical report released by JMO Rahul Haque stated that singer Shiraz Younus has died of a heart attack caused by a blockage in the coronary arteries.
On the death of Shiras Younus, 47, a resident of Wellawatte, his brother Mohammed Yusuf Mohamed Mashar testified at the inquest before the Colombo Coroner Ashraf Rumi.
‘The deceased is my brother and he is married. His wife is working in Australia. My brother had gone to participate in the protest staged at Galle Face on the 11th. He had gone there alone. While he was there, he had got ill around 12 midnight and he had been taken to the Colombo National Hospital in an ambulance. But he had died upon admission to hospital. My brother was suffering from asthma and catarrh.
Wellawatte Police Constable (66211) Sulendran recorded the evidence.
As there was no suspicion regarding the death of Shiraz, the Coroner had ordered that the body be handed over to his brother, Mohammad Yousuf.
A rap singer Shiraz Yoonus aka Rude Bwoy passed away Monday night at the ‘Go Home Gota’ protest at the Galle Face Green, Colombo.
Prior to his death, Shiraz had performed Bob Marley’s ‘Get up, stand up’. He collapsed soon after ending the song.
The rapper was known on stage as Shiraz Rude Bwoy.
