It is reported that the Foreign Ministry is receiving complaints from Sri Lankans in Germany that Manori Unambuwe – the Sri Lankan Ambassador posted there, is misusing her diplomatic privileges.
According to reports, the government of Sri Lanka is required to pay €8,000 for two domestic workers plus a gardener to maintain the Ambassador’s overpriced residence which again costs €15,000 per month.
However, it is said that the ambassador has been accused of doing nothing significant for the benefit of Sri Lanka and she does not even visit her office for months. Reports say that staff is managing all the work in the office.
Due to her conduct, a string of corruption has started in passport related matters, reports say.
Meanwhile, it is said that the Ambassador’s brother had cheated many people at a trade fair in Berlin and then continued to illegally stay in Germany asking various favours from innocent business people selling her name.
After continuous complaints by German businessmen, her brother has been deported, reports add.
It is also said that Unambuwe has recently got permission from the Ministry to stay in Sri Lanka for 35 days during Christmas time and new year holiday season to get her extension for another year.
Meanwhile, it is said that Mr. Ahmed Razi, the first secretary of the Sri Lankan embassy in Germany, has also been charged with corruption, but the government is yet to take any measures in this regard.
