The support of an international law firm will be sought through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for compensation claims in regard to the MV X-Press Pearl ship fire, Minister of Justice, Ali Sabry said.
He added that as the current case is against one of the largest insurance companies in the world, who will also obtain international legal support, it is important for Sri Lanka also to receive such support. Sabry further added that thereby the support of an international law firm will be sought in accordance with the instructions of the Attorney General and Cabinet approval.
He said such support is important to make a strong claim in consideration of all the possible impacts of the MV X-Press Pearl ship fire. Sabry was speaking to the Media yesterday (12) following a discussion held at the Ministry of Justice with regard to obtaining compensation for the impact and damage caused by the ship fire.
He added that although the support of the Indian Navy has been enlisted to identify areas where containers of the ship have sunk, a delay in this process is anticipated owing to the inclement weather.
