It has been learned that in order to support the all-party government, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has submitted a request to the government that the post of Speaker of the Parliament should be given to the leader of SLFP Maithripala Sirisena.
In addition, it is reported that the SLFP has also expressed interest in accepting several other cabinet positions.
However, the government has reportedly not responded regarding these demands so far.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) which holds the majority in parliament is not prepared to change the current Speaker at any cost.
In addition to these positions, there was a discussion last week between President Ranil Wickremesinghe and seniors led by SLFP leader Maithripala Sirisena about a general plan to establish an all-party government, and an extension of that is scheduled to happen this week.
