Oct 28, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) warning of another wave of COVID-19 has presented a four-point proposal to prevent another round of the pandemic in Sri Lanka.

In a letter addressed to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Association has pointed out that lessons learned from the recent outbreaks in countries such as the United Kingdom and Singapore and Israel compelled them to believe that another wave is imminent in Sri Lanka, especially now the travel restrictions are lifted.

The Association has recommended following four steps to be implemented to prevent another wave of COVID-19 in the country.

1. Stringent enforcement of current regulations by monitoring;
2. Third dose/booster of Pfizer vaccine to priority groups;
3. Continue with restrictions on super-spreader situations and events;
4. Sustain a high level of case surveillance by testing.
