The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has planned to launch a series of roadshows in India with the participation of stars like Sanath Jayasuriya and Yohani de Silva to promote tourism.
However, sources said based on previous experience, the number of tourists lured into the country has not increased due to any promotional programme launched by the SLTDA.
The new series of roadshows is planned to be held in major cities of India by spending a large amount of funds.
In addition to tourism, the SLTDA said that the aim of this programme is to further expand cultural and other bilateral relations between the two countries.
The first roadshow will be held at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi on 26th September followed by heading to the St. Regis Hotel in Mumbai on 28th September and closing with the Hyderabad Roadshow at Taj Krishna Hotel on 30th September 2022.
The ALTDA said each of these shows includes dance and entertainment items to give the audience an amazing experience and also a glimpse of Sri Lankan culture.
A delegation of over 50 local travel Agencies and hotels will be participating at this event, with the delegation being led by Harin Fernando, Minister of Tourism accompanied by Chalaka Gajabahu, Chairman Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and Thisum Jayasuriya, Chairman/Sri Lanka Conventions Bureau.
However, it is said that only around 80,000 tourists have visited Sri Lanka from India so far this year.
