* Special discussion on future of cinema after naming as an industry

Feb 10, Colombo: Wimal Weerawansa, Minister of Industries and representatives of seven film industries held a special discussion yesterday (09) on the future course of action to be taken after the process of naming cinema as an industry.
Current issues, proposals and actions to be taken in the field of film industry were discussed at length during the meeting.
Proposals and ideas were also discussed, including the need for a regulatory authority to promote and regulate the film industry, and the provision of facilities for local industry to navigate the international cinema.
Discussions also focused on the next steps in introducing a Mini Theater system that allows up to 100 viewers to watch movies simultaneously, centered on the country’s supermarket network. It was proposed to hold a comprehensive discussion in this regard and to provide further assistance to the film industry.
Representatives of the film industries expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Minister of Industry, Wimal Weerawansa, for his contribution to the process of recognizing cinema as an industry which has long been a common demand of many film industries.
