Top leaders of the government have called for a special report over three ministers abruptly exiting this week’s Cabinet meeting, reports say.
In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the cabinet meeting was held via Zoom last Tuesday from 5.30pm onwards and had dragged on until 10.30pm.
Following the request of many parties to impose a lockdown, the President has commented at length on the matter.
However, around 9.00pm, ministers Wimal Weerawansa, Vasudeva Nanayakkara and Udaya Gammanpila had abruptly left the zoom meeting with no explanations offered.
Later, it was learnt that a meeting of 10 political parties had been organized to be held at 7.00pm at the residence of Udaya Gammanpila and the three ministers had left to attend that. It is said that the decision to issue a collective statement calling for a lockdown was taken at this meeting.
It is said that senior figures of the government have already seen red after the aforementioned 03 ministers had signed a statement calling for a lockdown after not speaking up at the cabinet discussion.
