* Sri Lanka, Indonesia discuss strengthening trade relations

Feb 12, Colombo: A discussion between Sri Lanka Minister of Trade Dr. Bandula Gunawardena and the Ambassador of Indonesia Dewi Gustina Tobing was held at the Ministry of Trade Saturday (12) with the aim of strengthening trade relations between Sri Lanka and Indonesia.

Trade Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena pointed out that steps should be taken to strengthen trade between the two countries by connecting the Sri Lankan export sector and the Indonesian trade community.
The Minister said that the Indonesian student community could be facilitated to study in Sri Lanka and steps were being taken to create more space in the Indonesian market for value added products in the country and hoped for the support of the Indonesian Government in this regard.
Indonesian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Devi Gustina Tobin congratulated Sri Lanka on its recent achievement in obtaining the Geographical Index for Ceylon Cinnamon.
The Ambassador also pointed out the demand in Indonesia for products such as tea, which is unique to Sri Lanka.
The Ambassador also extended an invitation to Trade Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena and the Sri Lankan business community to pay an official visit to Indonesia.
