* Sri Lanka Navy rescues 38 people from distressed vessel in northwestern seas

Oct 01, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Navy today (Oct 01) safely rescued 38 people on board a vessel that was in distress due to sea water leakage while carrying a group of local tourists from Kalpitiya to Battalangunduwa Island.
The trawler named Dreamy Travels, registered for the transport of tourists was carrying a group of local tourists from Kalpitiya Jetty to Battalangundua Island when sea water leaked into the vessel from the bottom of the vessel, the Navy Media Unit said.
The owner of the trawler has informed Kalpitiya SLNS Vijaya Base today afternoon about the trawler that was in danger of sinking.
The Navy, immediately responding to the notification, dispatched Patrol Vessels P152 and P228 attached to the SLNS Vijaya of the Northwestern Naval Command and Patrol Vessel CG 202 of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard to the sea area where the trawler was in distress.
Accordingly, 38 people, including 32 men including three operators from the stricken trawler and 06 women, were safely rescued and brought to the Kalpitiya Harbor.
The Sri Lanka Navy is constantly ready to provide necessary relief to the maritime and fishing community in distress within the maritime search and rescue zone belonging to Sri Lanka.
