Sri Lanka PM meets with envoys of Islamic Countries

Dec 01, Colombo: A meeting of Ambassadors and High Commissioners of Islamic countries was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo last night (30).

This special meeting and dinner were organized at the invitation of Foreign Minister Prof. GL Peiris.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had a cordial discussion with the visiting Ambassadors and High Commissioners.

The Ambassadors and High Commissioners appreciated the prompt action taken by the Government of Sri Lanka to control the Covid-19 epidemic, Prime Minister’s Office said.

The envoys expressed their views on the continuation of existing bilateral relations with Islamic countries and their contribution to the economic growth of Sri Lanka through reciprocal activities and projects.

Prof. GL Peiris explained the efforts being made by the present Government to uplift the economy of Sri Lanka by overcoming the challenges faced by the epidemic.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa told Ambassadors and High Commissioners that he expects the continued support of Islamic countries to boost Sri Lanka’s economy.

Fifteen Ambassadors and High Commissioners representing Islamic countries were present at the meeting.

Ambassadors representing Oman, Palestine, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Qatar, Turkey, Iran, Libya, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Egypt, and High Commissioners of Maldives, Bangladesh and Pakistan participated in the event.
