* Sri Lanka sets another record-high daily death count Friday with 195 deaths, toll rises to 6,985

Aug 20, Colombo: Sri Lanka Friday reported that 195 deaths due to COVID-19 were confirmed for Thursday, August 19, 2021. This is the highest number of deaths reported within a day since the pandemic began last year.
The Director General of Health Services has confirmed 195 deaths due to the COVID-19 for Thursday, August 19.
Among the Thursday’s deaths, 98 are of males and 97 of females. The majority of the deaths numbering 151 are of elderly people in the 60 years and above age group. One male under age 30 also succumbed to the infection.
According to the data reported by the Government Information Department, the total deaths due to Covid-19 since the pandemic began has now risen to 6,985 including Thursday’s deaths.
