Sri Lankan Ambassador briefs top U.S. official on current developments in Sri Lanka

Sept 09, Colombo: Ambassador Mahinda Samarasinghe met with Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights Ambassador Uzra Zeya at the Ambassador’s residence in Washington D.C. on Thursday 8th September 2022.

The meeting was arranged by Ambassador Samarasinghe to brief Under Secretary Uzra Zeya on the current developments in Sri Lanka in the context of forthcoming Human Rights Council sessions in Geneva, the Sri Lankan Embassy said.

Under Secretary Uzra Zeya was accompanied by Special Assistant Emily Ball and Foreign Affairs Officer Maureen Ahmed.

Following the meeting Under Secretary Zeya taking to Twitter thanked the Sri Lankan ambassador for an engaging discussion on decades of vital U.S.-Sri Lankan ties and continuing U.S. support to the Sri Lankan people.

The top U.S. official emphasized that civilian security, accountability, and the protection of human rights are key to the partnership between the two countries.

Deputy Chief of Mission Rohana Ambagolla, Minister (Commercial) Charitha Yattogoda, Minister (Defense) Air Vice Marshal Sampath Wickremeratne, Minister (Political) Nishan Muthukrishna and First Secretary Ms. Chathuri Perera also participated in the meeting.
