Sept 08, Colombo: Although three experts including Prof. Neelika Malavige and Dr. Ananda Wijewickrema, resigned from the Covid-19 Control Technical Committee, they continue to contribute to the field of health, said Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle, State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control.

Meanwhile, she said that even if one Covid variant is controlled by imposing travel restrictions, new strains may emerge from time to time and people should understand the current situation and get used to living with Covid.

Dr. Fernandopulle said that many countries in the world today would not go to the lockdown, adding that this is not a time for accusations and everyone should unite to defeat the pandemic.

“This is not a time for blaming, and it is wrong to ask for a pound of flesh like Shylock when there is a crisis,” she said.

The State Minister said that due to the high demand for vaccines, there is a lot of congestion in some places and the people in such places should follow the health laws properly.

Specialist Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle said that clinicians should be provided with information on post-Covid disease conditions.

Specialist Dr. Ananda Wijewickrema of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, who resigned from the Covid Technical Committee has reportedly said that the reason for his departure was that the Covid vaccination program in Sri Lanka is not being implemented as per the recommendations of the experts.
