State Minister of Finance appoints a committee to probe revenue issues raised in parliament

Sept 26, Colombo: State Minister for Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has decided to call for a formal research report regarding the questions asked by former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage in the Parliament under Standing Order 27 (2) on September 20, 2022 regarding local revenues and the functioning of the Excise Department regarding cigarettes and alcohol.

The State Minister held a special meeting on Monday at the Ministry of Finance with the heads of the Inland Revenue Department, Excise Department and Customs Department to discuss this matter.

State Minister Siyambalapitiya instructed the relevant officials to provide a detailed report regarding the issues presented by the Member of Parliament Mahindananda Aluthgamage within the next two weeks.

The minister further mentioned that the report will be submitted to the parliament within a month.

Inland Revenue Commissioner General D.R.S. Hapuarachchi, Director General of Customs P.B.S.C. Nonis and Excise Commissioner General MJ. Gunasiri participated in the meeting.
