The price of a kilo of sugar has gone up to Rs.210 this week, from the previous week’s Rs. 160.
State Minister for Consumer Affairs, Lasantha Alagiyawanna stated that there is nothing he could do about it, though the price hike is unfair.
A bill to raise the fines is still awaiting parliamentary approval and as such, no action can be taken against the arbitrary hiking of prices, he added.
