International media reports that the Taliban has gained control of Afghanistan, after capturing the capital city of Kabul. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has fled the country, conceding defeat.
A spokesman for the Taliban told Al Jazeera that “the war is over’.
Kabul is in complete chaos as residents and expatriates try to flee Afghanistan.
The Taliban’s victory comes in the wake of foreign troops leaving Afghanistan recently.
The United States of America and the United Kingdom are among more than 60 countries that released a join statement urging that Afghans should be allowed to live in peace and harmony.
They also appealed to the Taliban to allow free movement and allow any one to leave the country by keeping the international borders, roads and airport open.
