Ten police officers died of Covid-19 in August alone

Aug 27, Colombo: In August alone, 10 police officers died from the Covid-19 viral disease, according to police sources.
According to the sources, 27 policemen have died due to the coronavirus and the majority of them who died due to Covid pneumonia.
The ten police officers died from COVID 19 this month had been attached to Kitulgala, Galaha, Dematagoda, Galle, Modara, Udugama, Ambanpola, National Police Academy, Batticaloa and Kegalle police stations.
Among the police officers died from coronavirus infection were a chief inspector, a police inspector, six sub-inspectors, 13 police sergeants and six police constables.
The Chief Inspector of Police who died of Covid infection was V M. Ekanayake, attached to the National Police Academy. He died of Covid pneumonia on August 10th, according to police sources.
The first police officer to die of the corona virus was Sub Inspector P. G. Andiris Appu of the Monaragala Police. He passed away on February 6, 2021.
