The Ministry of Trade has decided to import 100,000 metric tons of white rice from Myanmar to control the rising price of rice in the market.
It is planned to import this stock of rice at US $ 445 per metric ton through State Trading (General) Corporation.
They are expected to import 20,000 metric tons of rice at a time and release it to the market from time to time and the Ministry of Commerce has requested the Central Bank to issue to the People’s Bank the foreign exchange required to import stocks of rice.
