Transport Ministry agrees to a bus fare revision

Local bus fares are set to be increased following the recent fuel price revision.

The Ministry of Transport has agreed to increase bus fares based on the National Policy on bus fare revision.

Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association Gemunu Wijeratne when contacted by NewsRadio said the bus fare revision will be based on diesel prices, prices of tyres and all other costs of the industry.

He said the National Transport Commission requested the Ministry for four working days to compile a proposal based on all costs adding that the Association will also submit a proposal on bus fares based on their calculations by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Wijeratne said the NTC will announce the price revision next week following the agreement of private bus operators.
