It is reported that Sri Lanka should issue an official statement regarding the proposed joint program on the Trincomalee oil tank project before announcing the proposed financial assistance package to be provided to Sri Lanka by the Government of India next January.
It is said that a proposal has been made to store Indian oil in these tanks and supply oil to Sri Lanka.
It is hoped that if this system is adopted, Sri Lanka will be able to obtain fuel at a lower price than at present.
However, the Government of India and the Ministry of Finance of Sri Lanka have agreed on a package of around US $ 1900 million next January.
It includes $ 1,000 million to buy food and medicine, $ 500 million to buy fuel and another $ 400 million to bolster foreign reserves.
