Sri Lanka recorded a 09 wicket defeat in the final of the Asia Cup final yesterday (31) at the Dubai Cricket Ground.
Sri Lanka skipper Dunith Wellala won the toss and elected to bat first placing great faith in their bowling on a pitch that was favourable to bowlers.
However, the Sri Lanka were bowled out for 57 in 27 overs as their frontline batsmen failed to justify the decision to bat first crumbling before the Indian bowlers.
With the rain pouring down at the 33rd over of the Sri Lankans, the match was reduced to 38 overs according to the Duckworth & Lewis method.
Springing into action, Yasiru Rodrigo (19), Ravin de Silva (15) and Mathisha Pathirana (14) managed to put Sri Lanka in a three figure score as they did in the match against Pakistan.
In 38 overs Sri Lanka could score only 106 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. According to the Duckworth & Lewis theory, the Indian youngsters scored 102 runs in 38 overs.
While the Sri Lankan team had high hopes about their bowling, no Sri Lankan bowler had the opportunity to put up a successful result in the careful and patient batting of the Indian youngsters.
Accordingly, India won the 2021 Youth Asia Cup by scoring 104 runs for the loss of only one wicket in 21 overs.
Opening batsman Ankrish Raghuvanshi scored 56 not out and Shaikh Rashid 31 not out.
This is the 8th time that India has won this championship. Also, Sri Lanka won the runner-up position for the 5th time.
Pradeep Jayaprakash of Sri Lanka officiated the match.
The Youth World Cup will be held on January 14 in the West Indies, where Sri Lanka will play Group D against Scotland on January 14.
