The University Grants Commission says it plans to open universities soon by providing both COVID-19 vaccine doses to all academic and non-academic staff members.
Speaking to media at the Department of Government Information, UGC Chairman Prof. Sampath Amaratunga said a program has been implemented in collaboration with the health sector.
Prof. Amaratunga said both vaccine doses will be administered to academic and non-academic staff above the age of 30 at all universities.
In addition, all universities have been instructed to take immediate action in coordination with the nearest health care centres in the relevant districts for the vaccination of academic and non-academic staff and students under the age of 30.
Accordingly, it is expected to implement a methodology regarding the progress of the vaccination program implemented for the staff and students under the age of 30 in universities under the direct supervision of the UGC.
In view of this progress, universities are expected to be reopened in the near future after discussions with the Health authorities, the Vice Chancellors of the Universities, and other relevant parties.
