University teachers withdraw from online teaching

The Federation of University Teachers Associations (FUTA) has decided to withdraw from online teaching activities, demanding the government to withdraw the controversial Kotelawala National Defence University Bill.

FUTA President, Prof. Shyama Banneheka stated that the proposed bill would privatize free education and that they have decided to pull out from online education to protest against attempts to move the bill.

“Don’t militarize the education system in the country. We urge the government not to commercialise education,” he told at a protest held in Galaha junction on Wednesday.

He said already, the school education system is facing a crisis and if the government fails to withdraw the KNDU bill, the university education system too would collapse.
