Vasu proposes public ownership for CTC & DCSL!

Minister of Water Supply and Drainage Vasudeva Nanayakkara has urged to bring back the Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC (CTC) and the Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka PLC (DCSL) under public ownership as a solution to the dollar crisis.

He has reportedly made a formal request in this regard from President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

The state is losing out major streams of revenue from these companies after they were privatized with majority shares owned by private parties, the minister has pointed out.

It is said that this has been directed before the Executive Council.

The majority stake of the DCSL is held by well-known businessman – Harry Jayawardena. Meanwhile, 84% of the CTC is a member of British American Tobacco (BAT), one of the world’s most international businesses.
