We don’t agree with Kimarli’s request – flight attendants

The Flight Attendants Union (FAU) of Srilankan airlines has opposed the request made by Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority chairperson Kimarli Fernando for flight attendants to remove their PPE kits when on flights with Russian tourists.

The request was forwarded by the SLTDA chairperson to the Health Services Director General in a letter on 7 September; however, reports say a response has not yet been received.

Sri Lankan airlines staff have informed their superiors that trade union action will be taken if a decision is taken to remove the PPE outfits, as it will put the staff in danger of contracting Covid-19.

The SLTDA chairperson’s letter also called for the removing the requirement for PCR tests 72 hours prior for tourists who are fully vaccinated, removing PCR tests for children below 12 years as per the EU regulations and allowing fully vaccinated tourists to receive Rapid Antigen Tests at the airport.
