It is reported that the goodwill between the Prime minister and cabinet members has been spoiled after details of a Cabinet proposal made by the PM had been published by several media stations as a SMS news alert, even before the Cabinet meeting had ended.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister had proposed to donate the ministers’ salaries to the COVID-19 fund and several ministers had received the news alert as a SMS news alert while the meeting was still underway.
Last week’s Cabinet meeting chaired by the PM as the President had left for Kandy to participate in the rites of the Randoli Perahera of the Dalada Maligawa.
It was held as a Zoom meeting, just like the week before.
Responding to the news alert, Minister of Mass Media – Dullas Alahapperuma had commented, “See? We are talking about collective responsibility here but that has been violated even here,” while the rest of the ministers and the PM erupted in laughter.
Minister Dullas’ comment came as they had been previously commenting on Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila and Vasudeva Nanayakkara joining several other party leaders calling for a lockdown after remaining silent at the previous cabinet meeting.
