Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Storage Terminal – Uwais Mohamed has resigned from his post, reports say.
It is said that subject minister – Udaya Gammanpila yesterday (20) had ordered Uvais to resign.
The reason for the resignation is said to be an issue with regard to a project Tender.
Although bidders have come forward for the Tender called since 2013 with regard to this ‘Cross country Pipeline’ project, a company has not been finalized so far.
Although a company named ‘China Pipeline Petroleum Bureau’ had been selected for the Tender, internal sources say that Mr. Uvais had been averse in awarding them the Tender, pointing out their shortcomings.
This had sparked a clash between Mr. Uvais and the Energy minister – Udaya Gammanpila, with the minister calling for Mr. Uvais to resign.
The minister had then informed the President of this decision and the President had told the minister to do as he pleased.
Mr. Uvais is the brother of Justice minister – Ali Sabry.
