President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has informed Minister of Industry and Commerce Wimal Weerawansa, Minister of Water Supply Vasudeva Nanayakkara and Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila that they have violated the principle of collective responsibility of cabinet by issuing press statements calling for a lockdown, after not speaking up at the cabinet discussion on the measures necessary to curb the spread of Covid-19.
The President has reiterated it is a grave allegation and that they should refrain from such conduct as cabinet ministers.
Sources say one minister has admitted that the press statement may have been ill-advised, during this telephone conversation with the President.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa hosted a dinner at Temple Trees on Friday, for the three ministers in question.
Minister of Trade, Bandula Goonewardena too was present.
Sources say this dinner, which lasted about 4 hours, resulted in resolving the issues.
