Won’t allow SL to be used to compromise India’s security – President

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has assured visiting Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla that he will not allow Sri Lanka to be used in any action that would pose a threat to India’s security.

A media release by the President’s Media Division states that the President said thus during a meeting with Mr. Shringla today (05).

President Rajapaksa had also explained Sri Lanka’s relationship with China, adding India need not have any doubts about it.

The President had also officially invited the Indian PM to visit Sri Lanka.

He had also noted that the subject minister has been put in charge of resolving the situation surrounding the Trincomalee Oil Tank Farm in a manner that would be beneficial to both countries.

Noting that former PM Sirimavo Bandaranaike had proposed in 1971 that the Indian Ocean be made a Zone of Peace, the President has said he expects India’s support to take this proposal forward.

The Indian Foreign Secretary left for India earlier this evening after ending his three-day visit to Sri Lanka.
